#08 與 #09 從策略與方法談了綠美圖，#10 從程式技術深潛了一層。但策略跟技術之間，還有一層真正被人觸碰的——數位介面。這一篇我們跟視覺設計 lynn、創意企劃 ida 聊聊，這案子的設計怎麼長出來的。

起點

lynn 第一次到綠美圖現場，最強烈的感受是空間本身就有探索性。「會無意間發現特別的空間，讓我回想到金澤 21 世紀美術館，那時候突然進到一個房間，上面開了一個洞，對著天空。那個瞬間會被空間吸引，引起好奇心、探索欲。」

「第一個想法是：建築師可以好自由耶！」ida 說，在建築量體上看見各種不典型：大圓逃生梯、不斷變化的空間尺度、創造攀登身體感的美術館大廳。「深刻感受到為了真正相信的價值和美學大膽任性，不妥協的實踐。真棒！」

跟 SANAA 合作也讓人印象深刻。lynn 觀察到他們在衝突中保有獨特的從容：「在理想與實際落地之間，磨合的過程一定很辛苦，但面對這些考驗，他們反而充滿熱情，十分享受這個過程。」那叁式呢？lynn 想了一下：「我們感覺是另一種極致，每一步都走得扎實也深刻，在每個細節裡反覆審視、迎難而上。如果未來也能淬煉出那份從容，那就太好了。」

把建築翻譯成視覺

如何把 SANAA 的建築語彙——透明、流動、輕盈——轉成視覺語言？這是視覺設計要先回答的問題，lynn 分三個層次回答。

第一是材質與比例的翻譯。 圓角的角度、鋁的質感、金屬擴張網、流動的呼吸感。lynn 形容這個過程是「在現場一點一點收集」，設計裡的圖形、密碼、關卡都來自現場。

第二是顏色。

「白色其實比灰色還要有重量感。」lynn 說。視覺系統幾乎沒有大面積黑底，大多以不同階度的灰與白，調配出整體的視覺。經過許多測試，最終版所呈現的輕盈與流動感，與最初的提案版相比展現出截然不同的氣質。

第三是工作方法的轉變。

一般會覺得，介面就是要被看見：做得漂亮、好用、讓人記得。但這次幾乎是反過來的。就如 lynn 說的「想像數位體驗也是建築的一部分。」推播系統會出現在場館裡，手機也是每個人都會自然拿起來看的，這些東西要像消防栓一樣存在於空間，需要時在那裡，不需要時沒人多看一眼。

只是融入也有代價：「擔心因為融入所以無形，就會感覺沒這個東西。」數位作為一層皮，目標是融入空間，卻又不能真的消失——這個矛盾其實就是這次設計的核心。

另一種進入空間的方式：解謎遊戲

從 2021 Digiwave 開始，解謎遊戲就是叁式常用的手法。多次現場經驗裡，觀眾超乎想像地投入。但這次在綠美圖，情境跟過去很不一樣。

「綠美圖是一個可以承裝各種可能性、留白的空間，使用者體驗好像也該是能包容各種行為跟經驗的開放狀態。」ida 說，「這也是我覺得挑戰的地方，一個體驗 journey 如何包容多種動機跟行為？」

「漫遊者」：數位解謎遊戲，關卡散佈於場館各處，將建築動線、光影變化與空間節點轉化為任務線索。

遊戲關卡的靈感，除了建築空間本身，還有生活經驗。

lynn 提到《薩爾達傳說》裡的 Yahaha（克洛格果實）：地上幾塊石頭圍成一圈，中間缺一塊，你把那塊找來補上，一隻小精靈就會跳出來。「在遊戲裡，林克拿著希卡之石探索，就像是每個人手裡的手機。」「上週末去綠美圖的時候，還真的看到有民眾對著少了一張的甜甜圈椅喊出 Yahaha！」

ida 對種子有另一個想像來源：「這整個遊戲一開始的想像，是你走到森林收集各種漂亮的種子與石頭。當你把它們放進盒子裡，搖晃時，種子們碰撞會發出聲音。」「體驗的本質是原本生活中就存在的東西。數位讓這些東西有質變、有新視野，但不會完全脫離現實。」

從破關到放心迷路

綠美圖那麼大，「漫遊」要怎麼發生？跟「遊戲性」互斥嗎？

對 ida 來說，「漫遊者」最理想的精神是「不期而遇」，不需要「破關成就」來驅動觀眾；但身為玩家的 lynn 說，玩遊戲本身好像至少要知道關卡數量，才有基本的目標感。於是「漫遊者」最後不是二選一，而是一個能容納不同狀態的光譜：想認真玩遊戲的人，照著關卡線索前進；來借書、看展的人，在過程中意外發現；而真正在漫遊的人，隨緣撿拾。

地圖是漫遊者裡修改最多次的頁面。lynn 說最主要的轉變來自一個發現：「其實不需要急著讓大家知道自己在哪裡。整體引導為探索、放心迷路的感覺，同時增強遊戲的互動感。」為了這個目標我們做了一個瘋狂的決定，在最後兩個禮拜把地圖改成 3D 探索版。

ida 看到地圖最終的設計，反而看到更清晰的方向：「這其實跟視覺那邊是同一個命題，數位越收斂，實體反而越被凸顯。簡化的介面，讓體驗留在實體空間裡，並營造遊戲感，在現實上堆疊出數位世界。」也許透過數位，我們能把注意力推回實體空間。

值得迷一次路的幾關

最難的是樹屋關，還有電燈關卡很神秘，是夜間限定。lynn 最喜歡偶然相遇關，「因為我喜歡被推薦書。」

Issues #08 and #09 examined the Taichung Green Museumbrary through strategy and methodology; #10 went deeper on the engineering side. But between strategy and engineering sits another layer — the one visitors actually touch. The digital interface itself. In this issue, we sit down with visual designer Lynn and creative planner Ida to talk about how the design of this project came to be.

Starting Point

The first time Lynn visited the Green Museumbrary, what struck her most was that the space itself invited exploration. “You’d come across these unexpected spaces. It reminded me of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa — I once walked into a room there and looked up to find a circular opening cut directly into the sky. The space pulls you in. It triggers curiosity, the urge to look further.”

“My first thought was — architects get to be so free,” Ida says. In the volumes of the building, she saw atypical decisions everywhere: a large circular fire stair, constantly shifting spatial scales, a museum lobby that turns the act of visiting into something closer to a climb. “You really feel them being unapologetic, refusing to compromise on the values and aesthetics they believe in. It’s wonderful.”

Working with SANAA left its own impression. Lynn noticed a particular composure in the way they held themselves between competing pressures — a kind of grace in the middle of contradiction. “Reconciling ideals with what can actually be built must be exhausting. But they meet that work with energy. They seem to genuinely enjoy it.”

And ULTRACOMBOS? Lynn paused. “We’re another kind of extreme. Every step solid, every detail revisited again and again. We tend to lean into the hard parts. It would be wonderful if, one day, we could distill that same composure ourselves.”

Translating Architecture into Visual Design

How do you translate SANAA’s architectural vocabulary — transparency, flow, lightness — into a visual language? This was the first question the visual design had to answer. Lynn breaks her answer into three layers.

First, translating material and proportion. The angle of a rounded corner, the texture of aluminum, the expanded metal mesh, the breathing rhythm of flow. Lynn describes the process as “collecting, bit by bit, on site.” The graphics, the puzzle ciphers, the level designs — all of it came from things she encountered there.

Second, color.

“White actually carries more weight than gray,” Lynn says. The visual system contains almost no large blocks of black; nearly everything is built from gradations of gray and white. After many rounds of testing, the lightness and flow of the final version feel like a different temperament entirely from the original proposal.

Third, a shift in working method.

Even when you know exactly what you’re going for, doubt still creeps in once the work is done. During soft launch, Lynn brought her phone into the Green Museumbrary and used the media guide as a regular visitor would. “It turned out so much better than I’d imagined. I didn’t need to second-guess myself. Because the feeling only becomes complete when you actually use these things — on a phone, in the space.”

Digital as a Skin

Usually we think of interfaces as something to be seen: beautiful, useful, memorable. This time, it was almost the reverse.

As Lynn put it: imagine the digital experience as part of the building itself. The push displays sit in the space; phones are something every visitor naturally picks up. These things should exist the way a fire hydrant does — there when you need it, otherwise unnoticed.

But blending in carries a cost. “I worried that if it integrates too well, it becomes invisible — like there’s nothing there at all.”

Digital as a kind of skin: the goal is to merge into the space without quite disappearing. That contradiction sits at the center of this project’s design.

Digital Signage System: in-venue screens that cycle through program information. ULTRACOMBOS designed the layout and motion using a grid system, allowing information to flow into the architectural space rather than sit on top of it.

Another Way Into the Space: A Clue-based Exploration Game

Since 2021 Digiwave, clue-based explorationgames have been a recurring tool at ULTRACOMBOS. Across projects, we’ve watched visitors become more invested than we’d expected. But the Green Museumbrary offered a context unlike anything we’d worked with before.

“The Green Museumbrary is a space built to hold possibility — full of intentional emptiness,” Ida says. “The user experience should probably mirror that: open enough to hold different behaviors, different reasons for being there. And that’s where it gets difficult. How do you design a single journey that can absorb such a wide range of motivations?”

Wanderer: a digital clue-based exploration game with levels scattered throughout the venue, turning the building’s circulation, light, and spatial details into clues.

The levels were inspired by the building itself — and by everyday life.

Lynn brings up the Korok seeds (Yahaha) in The Legend of Zelda: a circle of stones with one piece missing — find it, fit it back in, and a small spirit appears. It has no real function. You just collect them. There are 900 in the game. “In Zelda, Link carries a Sheikah Slate as he explores,” Lynn says. “That’s exactly like the phone in everyone’s hand here.” She adds: “When I was at the Green Museumbrary last weekend, I actually saw someone shout Yahaha! at one of the donut benches that’s missing a piece.”

For Ida, the seeds came from a different image: “What I had in mind, at the very beginning, was walking into a forest and picking up beautiful seeds and stones. You put them in a box, you shake it, and the seeds knock against each other and make a sound.” She continues: “Experience, at its core, is just something that already exists in life. Digital can transform it, open up a new view of it — but it doesn’t leave the real world behind.”

From Beating the Game to Getting Lost on Purpose

The Green Museumbrary is enormous. How does wandering actually happen — and is it incompatible with the logic of a game?

For Ida, the ideal spirit of Wanderer is the chance encounter: no completion badges needed to keep people moving. But Lynn, who plays games herself, pointed out that playing one does seem to require, at minimum, knowing how many levels exist — you need a basic sense of progress. So Wanderer ended up neither/both. A spectrum that holds different ways of being there: players intent on solving the game can follow the level cues; visitors who came for the books or the exhibitions can stumble into a level by accident; and the true wanderers just pick up what they happen to find.

The map went through more revisions than anything else in Wanderer. The turning point, Lynn says, came from a realization: “We didn’t actually need to tell people where they were. The whole experience should feel like exploration — like it’s safe to get lost — while making the game itself more interactive.” To pull this off, we made a slightly reckless call: in the final two weeks, we rebuilt the map as a 3D exploration view.

Watching the final map come together, Ida saw the same principle echoed elsewhere: “It’s the same problem the visual side was solving — the more the digital recedes, the more the physical stands out. A simpler interface keeps the experience anchored in the actual building, while still layering a sense of gameplay on top of reality.” Perhaps that’s what digital, used this way, does: it pushes attention back into physical space.

A Few Levels Worth Getting Lost For

The hardest is the Treehouse. There’s also a mysterious Light level — night-time only. Lynn’s favorite is Chance Encounter: “Because I like being recommended books.”

Foreword — Tracing the Invisible Thread Between Literature and Art

At Taichung Green Museumbrary, two distinct sensibilities coexist under one roof: the visual intensity of an art museum and the narrative depth of a library. Architecturally, they are unified. Digitally, however, they have long spoken different languages.

Our collections include around 5,300 library records spanning art, design, literature, and everyday life, alongside thousands of artworks from the museum. I. When “Blue” Is Only Blue

At first, we treated this as a standard multimodal embedding problem. In theory, if images and text are mapped into the same vector space, they should align naturally.

In practice, they didn’t.

When the design team posed prompts like “the shape of melancholy,” the results were often unintentionally literal. A query like “detectives” and “hidden truths” returned books about communication skills, rather than anything resembling noir aesthetics or suspense.

This wasn’t a failure of the model—it was a semantic gap. To the system, an image of the ocean is simply “blue” and “water.” To us, it might evoke loss, memory, or the passage of time. For every book and artwork, the system generates descriptions across three dimensions:

• Visual — What is present? Shapes, light, composition

• Style — Medium, technique, aesthetic language

• Affect — What does it evoke? Solitude, tension, stillness, celebration

Next, we “stitch” these descriptions together. Instead of just saving tags, we plug the AI-analyzed creator, concrete keywords, abstract concepts, and emotions into a standardized narrative template:

For a theme like “The Sound of Winter,” the prompt was: “What does ice remember?” The system associated visual features such as crystalline geometry and negative space with abstract ideas like logic, silence, and permanence.

The result was a pairing: a minimalist geometric artwork alongside a philosophical text exploring structures of reasoning.

This is the kind of fusion we were aiming for.

The library provides the “bones” (depth and philosophy), while the art gallery provides the “flesh” (visual impact and beauty). They aren’t just linked by keywords; they share a common language of ‘cool rationality’ that sparks a dialogue across different media.

Or, through the “scent of spring”—using cues like “morning mist” and “tender buds”—the system connects an ink wash painting with a science book about the origins of life. This is no longer just a search; it is an exploration of concepts.

Conclusion — Making the Invisible Felt

Looking back, the role of the software engineer felt less like building a system, and more like translating between worlds.

We weren’t just processing data—we were attempting to encode intuition. The system is no longer a search tool. It becomes something more responsive—capable of engaging with ideas like stillness, weight, or ambiguity.

At Green Museumbrary, our goal is for the technology to disappear. When a visitor stands before the circular screen and, prompted by a question like “How high can mist rise?”, discovers an unexpected connection—that moment of recognition is the real outcome. That is where the system becomes meaningful.

鉗形攻勢

鉗形攻勢，是一種將己方軍隊分成兩路，從兩個方向對敵方發動進攻的戰術。看過電影《天能》的人，應該對其中的「時間鉗形攻勢」印象深刻。而我們在進行前期規劃，體感就如時間鉗形攻勢一般，在時空交錯中夾擊一個未知的目標。

一路從「建築」出發：在已確定的空間條件下，思考怎麼配置與詮釋使用情境的可能性？
一路從「營運」出發：當代的公共館舍被期待，承載城市形象、文化治理與未來公共生活的想像。如何定位台中的美術館與總圖？

在「建築先行」的流程與框架下，挑戰在於，我們、SANAA 與籌備處，需要在兩館館長與實際營運團隊出現前，就已設計完成的八個方盒，推演出最終的可能模樣。同時，我們也被期待預測未來的數位趨勢，並針對每一項設定提出完整分析 —— 技術可行性、預期效益、成本評估與執行時程。

於是，鉗形攻勢開始。

值得一提的是，為了讓「透明流動」的語言徹底成立，SANAA 的設計意志從建築主體延伸到了特裝工程（室內裝修）。去過現場的人，應該可以感受到從識別（主責的永真急制甚至做了一套專用字型）、指標介面甚至各式家具，所有視覺與使用語言都盡可能被納入同一個邏輯之中。在台灣大型公共場域中，這種從裡到外、從概念到細節高度和諧一致的狀態，實屬難得。也因為這個意志，鉗形攻勢的友軍陣容堅強。

站在眾人的肩膀上

一開始我們設定了與數位有關的八個子題：「探索」、「兩館連結」、「平權」、「參與」、「開放資料」、「效率」、「數據決策」、「創作」。而後我們邀請了「唯度設計」團隊，協助我們規劃與執行一連串的訪談與工作坊，試圖釐清這幾個子題之於綠美圖的詮釋與定位。

Phase 1｜利害關係人訪談：
這是一個 13 個場次，共 27 人參與的對話歷程。印象深刻的是，第一個階段我們就遇上了疫情期間的三級警戒，幸也不幸的是這個階段線上作業的影響不大。而透過利害關係人的訪談，逐步梳理出核心需求與期待，也預先的理解組織間可能產生的障礙與風險。這時也發現，眾人對本案都有非常高的期待，但也因此，有同等量級的擔憂。
在建築先行、籌備處非最終營運單位、美術館與圖書館權責平行的前提下。許多議題處於沒被發現或是不知如何進行的真空狀態，也開始清楚這個館舍的特殊性，更需要透過組織與流程的設計，與更多不同面向的專業工作者加入，建立一個共構的支持體系，才能有效的運轉那些令人嚮往的願景。

Phase 2｜專家訪談：
這段相當的精彩，訪談的五位對象，是當時時任，國家圖書館館長 曾淑賢，國藝會董事長 林曼麗，北美館館長 王俊傑，高美館館長 李玉玲與前北美館館長 林平。除了各自擁有豐厚的實務經驗且無私地傾囊相授，也從宏觀視野分析綠美圖的可能定位與困境，導入數位的各種經驗分享，還給出了一堆課後讀物。分享的篇幅甚至橫跨新移民、法人化、在地脈絡與結構性問題等眼界大開的延伸議題。
透過這些專業工作者的分析與提點，幫助我們對於如何勇敢設定但務實落地的路徑也逐漸清晰。但因為當時的訪談內容設定為保密，可惜無法分享更多。（呼！少寫好多字）

Phase 3｜場域研究：
實地的踏查了多個場域，臺南市立圖書館總館、李科永紀念圖書分館、臺南國家美術館籌備處（原臺南市美術館2館）、高雄市立美術館與國立公共資訊圖書館。透過館員導覽與館方訪談，聽見了許多前期規劃與實際落地使用的落差與修正經驗，這些是最貼近現場的聲音，而這些聲音都指向一個提醒：「越是有特色的空間，就越需要營運思維在前期有效介入。」
每個館舍也都因應民眾的需求，持續且用心的思考定位與調整服務，印象深刻的是南市圖總館竟然設有烹飪教室。（還得是臺南！）

Phase 4｜用戶研究：
在做場域研究的同時也進行了現場民眾的快訪，加上隨後針對特定族群的專訪，理解他們對於公共場所的期待與想像。看見了許多種截然不同的使用情境，渴望無目的漫遊、追求靈光閃現的藝文愛好者；期待空間溫柔包容、能讓孩子自在遊走的家長；以及希望將館舍視為客廳延伸、與日常縫合的在地居民。數位服務的重點不僅是先進完善的設備，更需要掌握不同族群在「吸引、停留、再訪」不同情境的需求，設計最終面對的都是長期與之相處的「人」。

會師

在前期研究期間，有一天 SANAA 的設計師承錕，用 iPad 跟我分享一張手稿，粗略的描繪數位體驗概念的想像，覺得共鳴之餘，回台北馬上接手畫了一個完整的版本，把數位在綠美圖的策略、任務層級、形式框架組織起來。（順帶一提，把概念圖像化是一種很有助溝通的作法。）

這張概念圖成了往後設定的核心，陸續的完成各種數位體驗的設定。

策略｜流動的連結
我們已經有了一個極其出色的容器，在空間體驗上有非常多的可能。但空間是靜態的，而數位是流動的。透過數位的流動性，空間、藝術、知識、使用者，在這裡面的一切，可以產生各種連結，我們希望在這些連結裡，動態且個人化的提供體驗。

任務｜從需求到融合
結構上有三個層級，第一個要先滿足兩館的基本功能需求，而後連結兩館的內容並且建立起一致的語言，最後是創造融合兩館才得以成立的體驗。

形式｜三種尺度的介面
一個是在你口袋裡就有的隨身個人載體 ── 手機，第二個是在各個重要點位可以乘載資訊的螢幕，第三個是一個尺度最大的載體，裡面可以裝入整個場館的內容與脈動。用不同尺度的載體，對應個人與公共間的各種情境。

分享一個小故事，概念圖中的那個「環」，起初只是隨手一畫（可能是受夏日大作戰的影響），但最後像是原封不動的出現在現實世界，實在是跟它造型一樣的奇幻。

在完成規劃書的一年之後，兩館館長正式就任。我們隨即委託「害喜影音綜藝」團隊協助進行多次兩館的對焦工作坊，一起以當時的預算、技術與營運現實為基礎，將概念一一落地。在其中的一次工作坊前，承錕不知從哪翻出了長谷川祐子（Yuko Hasegawa在綠美圖超級前期的概念想像。

看著那張圖，加上工作坊期間兩館館長在共識下開心的討論各種可能。那一刻，突然有一種感覺，鉗形攻勢是不是來到了兩邊會合的那個點上了！當眾人在同一個頻率上，坦誠面對問題時，那個點是可以連接在一起的。

在後期與 SANAA 成員聊天，覺得這種「建築先行」的時空錯置，搞不好是件好事，因為如此大膽且無跡可尋的設定，搞不好在做完前期研究就會因為重重困難而被放棄。正因為台灣的某部分不嚴謹彈性與包容的基因，所以長出了這種前所未見的可能。

以探索與連結為核心的數位體驗

在上述一連串的探尋與碰撞後，終於來到實際設計的部分。數位要在三種不同類型的載體，完成「基本功能」、「一致性」與「共融體驗」三個不同層級的工程。回到一開始文化森林的概念，最終所有的技術，都是為了實踐探索與連結。

在演算法當道的時代，我們正集體陷入學者凱斯·桑斯坦（Cass Sunstein）所提出的「資訊繭房」，演算法精準地餵養我們的偏好，將我們封閉在同溫層裡，社會也因此趨於極化與割裂。

而綠美圖的高度開放、充滿隨機性的空間，恰恰是打破這個繭房的理想場域。我們希望透過「漫遊式探索」機制，邀請觀眾放下目的性，在建築中自由地迷失、驚喜地遇見，因此設計了幾種模式。

• 口袋裡的導遊： 我們希望使用者在自己的口袋有一個直覺又完整的導覽工具。觀眾不必費心研究地圖，只需根據當下的情境選擇或詢問一條路線，手機便會化身為嚮導，陪你踏上專屬旅程。

• 空間中的靈感種子： 透過遊戲化的機制，安排藏在空間中的靈感種子。讓觀眾有機會走到平常不會到的地方，觀察平常不會注意的細節，獲得意外的啟發。我們希望觀眾可以在這裡放心迷路，盡情探索，更深度的理解與感受跟綠美圖有關的一切。

• AI 編織的知識環： 這是一個連結整個綠美圖資訊的環形 LED，試圖打破現有的圖書與藏品的樹狀分類結構。使用 AI 的 embedding 技術，將海量資料重組為多維的關聯網絡。當你駐足仰望，會發現那些你不成想像過的連結脈絡。這次圖書館的開館展「世界的索引」，酷卡後印著一句話就是最好的註解。

歷經這一切，私心認為，即使放眼國際，綠美圖無疑是一個可以用「典範」來形容的場域。曾在訪談中聽到一句話 ──「蓋新館的起心動念都是不能輸」，當時的我一直困惑這個初衷與公共性的關聯。而在落成後，看見熙熙攘攘的各種觀眾以各種方式與這個空間開心的相處，又想起了這句話。

「不能輸」這個看似求吸睛求亮點求第一的想法，其實撐起了「可能性」的空間，但身處其中的我們不必在乎輸贏，而是好好乘著這個想求勝所帶來的能量，前往那個該去的遠方，那時候大家都會贏。

最後，數位體驗的全部內容將會在不久後全數釋出，誠摯邀約你透過數位，打開綠美圖的另外一個裡世界。

Building on our initial exploration of libraries, museums, and SANAA, we then embarked on a journey of field research and real-world inquiry—not to validate a fixed answer, but to navigate a moving target shaped by space, governance, and time.

The Pincer Movement

A pincer movement is a military tactic in which forces advance from two directions to encircle an opponent. Those who have seen Tenet may recall the concept of the “temporal pincer movement.”

During the early planning phase, our experience felt strikingly similar. We were advancing through overlapping timelines and perspectives, attempting to close in on an unknown future.

One front began with architecture:
Given the spatial conditions already defined, how might different usage scenarios be configured and interpreted?

The other began with operations:
Contemporary public cultural institutions are expected to embody urban identity, cultural governance, and visions of future public life. How should Taichung’s art museum and central library be positioned within this context?

Under an “architecture-first” framework, the challenge was immense. Before the directors and operational teams for the museum and library were even in place, we, alongside SANAA and the Preparatory Office, were expected to extrapolate definitive possibilities from eight already-designed architectural volumes.

At the same time, we were asked to anticipate future digital trends and provide comprehensive analyses for every proposal, covering technical feasibility, expected impact, cost evaluation, and implementation timelines.

Thus, the pincer movement began, not as a metaphor, but as the very condition under which the project unfolded.

It is worth noting that for the concept of “transparent flow” to hold true, SANAA’s design intent extended far beyond the building shell into interiors and special installations. Visitors to the site may recall that from the wayfinding systems (for which Aaron nieh workshop even developed a custom-builttypeface) to signage interfaces and furniture, all visual and functional languages were integrated into a single, coherent logic.

Such a high level of consistency, from concept to detail, inside and out, is rare for large-scale public spaces in Taiwan. This commitment to design meant that our pincer movement was supported by exceptionally strong allies.

Standing on the Shoulders of Many

From the very start, we defined eight digital-related subthemes: Exploration, Dual-Institution Connection, Equity, Participation, Open Data, Efficiency, Data-Driven Decision-Making, and Creation.

We then invited the team from UniXis Design to help plan and conduct a series of interviews and workshops, aiming to clarify how these themes might be interpreted and positioned within the Green Museumbrary.

Phase 1: Stakeholder Interviews

This phase consisted of 13 sessions involving 27 participants. Notably, we encountered Taiwan’s Level 3 COVID alert early on. Fortunately (and paradoxically), the impact was limited, as most activities shifted seamlessly online.

Through these interviews, we gradually distilled core needs and expectations while identifying potential organizational obstacles and risks in advance. It became clear that while expectations for the project were sky-high, so were the concerns.

Given an architecture-first process, a preparatory office that was not the final operating body, and parallel authorities between the museum and the library, many issues existed in a vacuum, either undiscovered or lacking clear ownership.

This highlighted the unique nature of the Green Museumbrary: it requires deliberate organizational and process design, along with the involvement of diverse professional expertise, to build a shared support system capable of turning aspirational visions into effective operations.

Phase 2: Expert Interviews

This phase was particularly illuminating. We interviewed five distinguished figures:

• Tseng Shu-Hsien, then Director of the National Central Library;

• Lin Man-Lee, Chairperson of the National Culture and Arts Foundation;

• Wang Jun-Jieh, Director of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum;

• Lee Yu-Lin, Director of the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts;

• Lin Ping, former Director of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum.

Each brought deep practical experience and shared it generously. From macro-level perspectives on the Green Museumbrary’s positioning and challenges to hands-on insights into digital integration, the discussions were expansive. They extended into topics such as new immigrant communities, institutional governance models, local contexts, and structural issues. We also walked away with a formidable reading list.

These insights helped us clarify how to set bold yet grounded paths forward. As these interviews were conducted under confidentiality agreements, we are unfortunately unable to share further details here. (A small mercy: that’s far fewer words to write.)

Phase 3: Site Research

We conducted on-site research at several institutions, including the Tainan Public Library (New Main Library), Lee Ko-Yung Memorial Library, The Preparatory Office of the National Museum of Modern Art Tainan (MOMA Tainan), Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, and the National Library of Public Information.

Through guided tours and interviews with staff, we heard candid accounts of the gaps between early planning and real-world use, along with the adjustments that followed. These frontline perspectives consistently pointed to one key reminder: The more distinctive the space, the earlier operational thinking must meaningfully intervene.

Each institution continues to thoughtfully adjust its positioning and services in response to public needs. One particularly memorable moment was discovering that the Tainan Public Library even includes a cooking classroom. (Leave it to Tainan.)

Phase 4: User Research

Alongside site research, we conducted rapid on-site interviews with visitors, followed by in-depth interviews with specific user groups. These conversations revealed diverse expectations of public spaces:

• Those who long to wander aimlessly in search of serendipity;

• Parents seeking gentle, inclusive environments where children can roam freely;

• Local residents who view the institution as an extension of their living room, seamlessly stitched into daily life.

Digital services, then, are not merely about advanced equipment. They must respond to different user needs across moments of attraction, dwell time, and return visits, always remembering that the ultimate design audience is the people who will live with these systems over time.

Convergence

During the research phase, SANAA designer Cheng-Kun once shared a rough iPad sketch of a digital experience concept. Resonating deeply with the idea, I returned to Taipei and developed a more complete version, organizing the digital strategy, mission hierarchy, and formal framework for the Green Museumbrary. (Visualizing concepts, incidentally, is an exceptionally effective communication tool.)

This diagram became the foundation for defining the subsequent digital experience.

Strategy: Fluid Connections

We already had an exceptional spatial container rich with experiential possibilities. But while space is static, digital is fluid. Through digital flow, space, art, knowledge, and users can form dynamic connections, allowing experiences to be delivered in a personalized and adaptive manner.

Mission: From Needs to Integration

Structurally, the mission unfolds in three layers: first, fulfilling the basic functional needs of both institutions; second, connecting their content through a shared language; and finally, creating experiences that can only emerge through their integration.

Form: Interfaces at Three Scales

1. Personal: The device in your pocket, the smartphone.

2. Spatial: Screens located at key points throughout the building.

3. Environmental: The largest-scale medium, capable of embodying the entire institution’s content and rhythms.

Different scales respond to different contexts between the personal and the public.

A small anecdote: the “ring” in the concept diagram was initially a casual sketch (perhaps subconsciously inspired by Summer Wars). Yet it ultimately appeared in the physical world almost unchanged, as fantastical as its form suggests.

One year after completing the planning document, the directors of both institutions officially took office. We then commissioned HIDE AND SEEK AUDIOVISUAL ART to facilitate a series of alignment workshops, grounding the concepts in real-world budgetary, technical, and operational conditions.

Before one workshop, Cheng-Kun unearthed an early conceptual sketch for the Green Museumbrary by Yuko Hasegawa.

As we looked at the image and listened to both directors joyfully discuss possibilities in shared consensus, a realization struck: perhaps the pincer movement had finally reached its point of convergence.

Not because the answers were complete, but because the questions were finally shared. When everyone operates on the same frequency and confronts challenges with honesty, that convergence becomes possible.

Reflecting later with members of SANAA, we wondered whether this architectural time displacement might actually have been a blessing. Such bold, untraceable ideas may well have been abandoned had they been subjected too early to pragmatic constraints. Perhaps it is Taiwan’s particular blend of flexibility and tolerance that allowed such unprecedented possibilities to emerge.

A Digital Experience Rooted in Exploration and Connection

After this extended process of inquiry and collision, we arrived at the design phase. Across three types of media, the digital system needed to realize three layers: basic functionality, consistency, and integrative experience.

Returning to the concept of a cultural forest, every technology ultimately serves exploration and connection.

In an algorithm-driven era, we collectively risk falling into what Cass Sunstein calls “information cocoons,” where algorithms feed our preferences with precision, isolating us within echo chambers and intensifying social polarization.

The Green Museumbrary’s open, stochastic spatial design offers an ideal countermeasure. Through mechanisms of exploratory wandering, we invite visitors to release goal-oriented thinking, to lose themselves freely within the architecture and encounter unexpected discoveries. This vision manifests in several modes:

• A Guide in Your Pocket

  An intuitive, comprehensive navigation tool that requires no prior map study. Visitors simply choose or ask for a route, and their phone becomes a personal guide.

• Seeds of Inspiration in Space

  Gamified elements hidden throughout the building encourage visitors to explore unfamiliar areas, notice overlooked details, and find unexpected inspiration—a place where getting lost is welcomed.

• An AI-Woven Knowledge Ring

  A circular LED installation connecting the entirety of the Green Museumbrary’s information, breaking away from traditional hierarchical classification systems. Using AI embedding technology, vast datasets are reorganized into multidimensional networks of association. As you look up, you may discover connections you never imagined. The exhibition tagline from the library’s opening show, Unveiling the Encyclopedic World, captures this perfectly: “The concept of the library is often built on a misunderstanding: that people go to libraries to find a book whose title they already know. Of course, this often happens. But for my friends and me, the true function of the library is to discover books we have never heard of, but which may be of vital importance to us.” — Umberto Eco

Having witnessed this process, we believe that even on a global scale, the Green Museumbrary can rightly be described as a paradigm. I once heard it said in an interview: “The impulse behind building a new museum is always that we cannot afford to lose.” At the time, I struggled to reconcile this sentiment with publicness. Yet upon seeing crowds of visitors joyfully inhabiting the space in their own ways, that phrase returned to mind.

“Not losing,” though seemingly about spectacle or competition, ultimately creates space for possibility. Those within need not concern themselves with winning or losing—only with harnessing the momentum such ambition generates, and moving toward the horizon we are meant to reach. In that moment, everyone wins.

DRIFT IN TIME, an audiovisual work co-created with Cicada, premiered as a live performance at Ars Electronica Festival 2025 in Linz and explores climate change through the “Memory of Ice.” Later in 2025, the work was also presented in an installation format at the 2025 C-LAB Sound Festival: DIVERSONICS.

DigiWave - DdDd

Curated by ULTRACOMBOS, DigiWave - DdDd traced the digital evolution of sound across seven thematic zones. First launched in 2024, it travelled to Shibuya, Tokyo in 2025 as a pop-up, where visitors used their phones to unlock interactive layers and influence massive audiovisual installations, shifting from listeners into creators.

• 就業輔導：在某個分館，舉辦著職缺的說明會，一開始我相當詫異，怎麼不是辦在就業服務站？但隨著影片中越來越多「非典型」的活動出現，就會理解這都是「知識平權」這個大題下的一種形式。

讀完各種相關資料之後，深覺綠美圖是 SANAA 建築語言的集大成，而且把尺度、可能性與複雜度推向一個前所未見的高度。接下來從建築角度，淺談我眼中的綠美圖（非建築專業，好緊張）。

八個方盒

一如前述，兩個場館有著顯著不同的情境。SANAA 提出了一個由八個大小不一、旋轉角度不同、樓層高度錯落的方盒所組成的聚落。透過動線串連，形成一個既離散又連續的空間想像。在這裡，知識與藝術隨機相遇，建築成為了 SANAA 口中的「文化森林」。像是金澤 21 世紀美術館一樣，迎接從各種方向前來的民眾。偷偷說，叁式今年的員旅就是前往金澤，實地的體驗了當代建築如何無痕地介入城市生活。

輕盈通透

因為還在地基階段就到過現場，那時看到地面滿佈的隔震器，才意識到每一隻極細的柱子下都有著這一個圓盤，那個「極細」才得以成立，而這種對輕盈的追求穿透到了每個空間細節，釋放了空間的重量。

另外一個顯著的元素「透明」，這是形容 SANAA 建築最常被提及的語言之一，但對於透明二字 SANAA 追求的不是不可見，而是一種過渡；不是消失，而是一種關係的重建。在綠美圖大量的複合使用玻璃與擴張網，隔間像是一層薄紗，光線漫射、視線穿透，室內與室外、圖書館與美術館、公園與城市的界線被溫柔地模糊過渡。

流動即生命

在紀錄片《Tokyo Ride》中，建築師之一西澤立衛，駕駛著他的愛車 Alfa Romeo，拍攝當天的大雨導致車窗不斷起霧，西澤必須拿著抹布不斷擦拭玻璃，甚至打開窗戶讓裡外溫度比較接近，因而弄濕了左邊襯衫。而他喜歡這輛老車正是因為這種對自然環境（風、雨、引擎音浪）的直接接觸，就像是 SANAA 追求建築裡外流動性的完美隱喻。

也讓我想起了讓光跟風雨自由進出的豐島美術館。再偷偷說，叁式去年員旅去了那裡，在豐島美術館的現場禁止發出任何聲音，但因為兩歲女兒的突然大哭，那在空間中無限反彈的聲音體驗，至今都難以忘懷。

在他近期發表的《立衛散考》一書中，提出了一個觀念：
『如果要用「生命性」來形容事物的狀態，首先浮現腦中的，會是「流動」與「透明性」。
例如河流或池塘，當水流停止時，水就會變得混濁、腐壞，失去透明，魚也無法生存，整個環境變成死寂的狀態。
相反地，當水的流動恢復，水質變清，氧氣增加，透明度提升，魚群回來，池塘也重獲生機。
當有流動、當事物能夠出入交換時，「生命性」的狀態就開始出現。』

這應該也是 SANAA 對綠美圖的期待，建築提供了流動與透明的狀態，但需要人與環境的參與，不斷的帶一些東西進來，帶一些東西走，成為一個文化流動交融的現場。

SANAA 的建築語言，解放了兩館的既定想像，為這個空間帶來了無限可能的開放與流動性，這裡沒有所謂「正確」的使用方法。它像是在邀請市民們，不僅來體驗，更是來參與各種文化的生成。

綠美圖，是對觀眾的、對機構的、也是對公共性的全新想像，是一種「生命性」的期待。而之於叁式，數位怎麼融入這個「文化森林」，下篇是針對建築團隊、機構、專家、與現有場館的工作人員，實地的訪談與踏查，還有多方專業團隊的陸續加入，精彩可期！（自己說）

Taichung Green Museumbrary, located on the north side of Taichung Central Park, is a hybrid cultural institution that brings together the Taichung Art Museum and the Taichung Public Library under one roof. Designed by SANAA (Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa) in collaboration with Ricky Liu & Associates Architects, the building carries an ambition that goes beyond its elegant surface: to reimagine what contemporary public space can be.

Starting with a simple question

Let’s rewind to a day in 2020, when designers from SANAA met with us at ULTRACOMBOS. The question on the table was deceptively simple:

“Digital in the Green Museumbrary should not just mean putting a few public computers in the building.”

At the time, none of us imagined how far this question would unfold.

Through a shared resonance around cross-disciplinary integration and design language, SANAA formally invited ULTRACOMBOS to serve as the digital consultant for the Green Museumbrary. The first step, however, was not to discuss solutions, but to return to first principles:

What is a library? What is a museum? And ultimately, what is SANAA?

We all hoped that digital would not exist as an add-on, but as an integral, inseparable part of the whole.

Two ends of a spectrum

For reasons I can’t quite explain, around that time I happened to watch two documentaries by master filmmaker Frederick Wiseman on Giloo: National Gallery and Ex Libris: The New York Public Library. Almost uncannily, they mirrored the two institutional natures embedded within the Green Museumbrary.

Wiseman’s signature “direct cinema” style offers no interviews, no narration, only carefully edited sequences of real-life moments. His authorial intent is strong, yet as a viewer, I felt like an invisible presence, quietly standing aside and witnessing reality unfold.

National Gallery: the guardian of high culture

The film reveals the tension between the National Gallery’s sacred artistic mission and the demands of the secular world.

In one scene, the board debates whether to rent out the museum’s exterior walls for advertising during the London Marathon. The director of the museum stands firm as a defender of traditional values, opposing the commercialization of the building’s facade and insisting that any promotion must align with the institution’s mission. Marketing consultants, on the other hand, argue that without attracting broader contemporary audiences, the museum risks irrelevance and eventual decline.

In another scene, children sit casually on the floor, energetically engaging with a guide, unconcerned about disturbing adults quietly viewing paintings nearby. The film then cuts to a private, intimate tour led by the director for potential donors. One moment gestures toward equality and openness, while the other exposes the inescapable reality of hierarchy.

Through Wiseman’s lens, the inner struggles of a museum navigating ideals and survival become strikingly visible. It offered me an initial understanding of the tension between the dream and reality of running an art institution.

Ex Libris: The New York Public Library: a living organism for closing knowledge gaps

Before watching this film, my saw a library as just a quiet, air-conditioned study hall. What Wiseman shows instead is a space so much more than just reading.

A few scenes that stayed with me:

• Employment support: In one branch, job information sessions are held. At first, I wondered why this wasn’t happening at an employment office. But as more “non-traditional” activities appear, it becomes clear that all of this falls under the broader mission of knowledge equity.

• Wi-Fi lending: The library lends portable Wi-Fi hotspots to families without internet access, directly addressing the digital divide.

• Materials libraries: One branch houses free creative materials. Through hands-on workshops, people learn how to use these resources to create. A librarian even notes that Andy Warhol “borrowed” extensively from here.

• Poetry readings: In the main hall, someone recites poetry. Passersby stop, listen, and share a quiet, unexpected moment of beauty.

• The human Wikipedia: You can call a librarian with any question. They might recommend books, or even talk through the content of a book with you in real time.

The New York Public Library demonstrates how, in a city of vastly different communities, libraries can become decentralized nodes of empowerment. As one line in the film puts it:

“The library is not about books. The library is about people.”

These two films reveal radically different approaches to public responsibility.

National Gallery portrays a vertical, centralized institution striving to preserve artistic purity within a consumer-driven society.

Ex Libris presents a horizontal, decentralized network that grows in response to community needs.

The greatest challenge and allure of the Green Museumbrary lies precisely in its attempt to hold both ends of this spectrum within a single space: the vertical temple and the horizontal network.

SANAA

After reading extensively, it became clear that the Green Museumbrary is the ultimate expression of SANAA’s architectural language, pushing scale, complexity, and possibility to an unprecedented level. What follows is a brief reflection on the building itself, from my non-architect perspective (Honestly, I’m a bit nervous writing this.)

Eight boxes

As noted earlier, the museum and the library operate under very different conditions. SANAA’s response was to propose a cluster of eight boxes, each varying in size, orientation, and floor height. These volumes are connected through circulation, forming a spatial composition that feels both fragmented and continuous.

Here, knowledge and art encounter each other by chance. Architecture becomes what SANAA describes as a “cultural forest”, much like the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, welcoming visitors from every direction. A small aside: ULTRACOMBOS visited Kanazawa for our company trip this year, experiencing firsthand how contemporary architecture can seamlessly integrate into everyday urban life.

Because I visited the site while it was still at the foundation stage, I remember seeing the seismic isolation bearings spread across the ground. Only then did I realize that beneath each slender column lies one of these massive discs. It was this unseen engineering that made such extreme slenderness possible. SANAA’s pursuit of lightness permeates every spatial detail, releasing the building from a sense of weight.

Transparency as relationship

“Transparency” is perhaps the most frequently cited term when describing SANAA’s work. Yet what they pursue is not invisibility, but transition. Not disappearance, but the reconstruction of relationships.

In the Green Museumbrary, extensive use of glass and expanded metal mesh creates partitions that feel like thin veils. Light diffuses, sightlines pass through. The boundaries between inside and outside, library and museum, park and city are gently blurred.

Flow is life

In the documentary Tokyo Ride, Ryue Nishizawa drives his beloved Alfa Romeo through heavy rain. The car windows fog up constantly, forcing him to wipe them repeatedly, even opening the window to equalize temperatures, soaking his shirt in the process. He loves the car precisely because it allows such direct contact with wind, rain, and engine noise. It is a perfect metaphor for SANAA’s pursuit of permeability and flow between interior and exterior.

It also reminds me of the Teshima Art Museum, where light, wind, and rain are free to enter. Another aside: ULTRACOMBOS visited Teshima last year. Silence is strictly enforced there, but the sudden crying of a two-year-old child echoed endlessly through the space. That acoustic experience is something I will never forget.

In his recent book Ryu-e Shikō, Nishizawa writes:

“When we speak of ‘vitality,’ what first comes to mind are flow and transparency.

Take a river or a pond. When water stops flowing, it becomes murky and decays. Fish cannot survive, and the environment turns lifeless.

When flow returns, the water clears, oxygen increases, transparency improves, fish return, and life emerges again.

When there is movement, when things can enter and exit, vitality begins.”

This seems to capture SANAA’s expectation for the Green Museumbrary. The architecture provides the conditions for flow and transparency, but it requires participation. People must bring things in and take things out. Only then does it become a site of cultural circulation.

SANAA’s architecture liberates both institutions from fixed assumptions. There is no “correct” way to use this space. It invites citizens not only to experience culture, but to actively participate in its ongoing formation.

The Green Museumbrary represents a new imagination of publicness, for audiences and institutions alike. It is an expectation of vitality.

As for ULTRACOMBOS, how digital integrates into this “cultural forest” will be explored in the next chapter, through on-site interviews and field research with architects, institutions, experts, and existing staff, alongside the gradual involvement of many professional teams. More to come. (Yes, I’m saying that myself.)

模糊介面

第一題是，你在電話亭裡有一面投影，要做出能讓人回憶過往、勾起情感的數位介面，會長什麼樣子？

首先我們加了一盞燈。但燈的事情難解釋，需要你去現場看，等下會有前往的方法。

除了引用一些通用法則（偶爾不小心會露出廣告感），我們討論過的還有像是舉出例句，在某個情境下，希望 AI 能用這樣的文字回應。或者想要一種感覺，例如：溫暖、不預設立場、不批判、安全感、被接住……除了這些是連當代人類都很難做到的「功能」（參考閱讀：thread），每個人的回憶又都不一樣，裡面的「感覺」也都是交錯複雜……總之這些設定描述（對寫程式的人來說）都太不線性，不能像是過去設計互動那樣收納成幾條規則判斷。

我們也看了一些其他人做的類似題目（像是這個 Dream Recorder），發現「模糊」也許是一個關鍵。人對於視覺和語言，容易產生想像的，反而是一些模糊狀態，能夠帶入各種自己過去的經驗。舉例像「詩」，抽象的語言提供大家各種對號入座。

先懷念一下 rule-based 的年代，一切都滿「愉快」。在早期的 chatbot ELIZA 中，機器只要回覆幾種固定句型（再多說一點、你對這有什麼看法……），就能讓人感覺像在跟真人對話（這幾句學起來，日常生活好像也很實用）

Prompt engineering 應該是這年代最藝術又不藝術的工作之一了，超簡單地說，我們就是問 AI 要怎麼設計 agent，請他幫忙寫好 system prompt。（其實最一開始我是有用人腦寫過 prompt，除了馬上就發現自己寫字能力低落，無法說改就改，過多的贅字也只是在浪費 token，那就先相信還是 AI 懂 AI 吧）

以下是一些「藝術」的心得：

• 前面幾段說到的給例句，當然是有用的，但不能過多，agent 會開始直接抄答案。

• 後來，因為我們是擅長後設的人類，對於對話開始有了結構上的想像，例如應該分幾段，由淺入深，從具象場景到抽象感情……但一樣，在加入更多規則後，agent 也開始變無聊了。（這算是某種滿輕易可以遇到的 LLM 的 overfitting 嗎？求解）

• 機器學習模型裡有一個參數叫 temperature，跟字面上一樣意思，如果調的低，結果會溫和保守無聊，接近原本的訓練資料；調高，你就會得到一些加熱過的內容。（就是你想像的那種加熱）

• 讓 AI 角色扮演，他滿會。設定說話視角與溝通對象，AI 就進入一個我所謂八點檔通用模式了。（這題身為難搞人類又開始覺得，是我太容易滿足於這種刻板表演了嗎）

• 影像跳格也沒關係，畢竟那是夢啊。Image Gen 裡面那種因 noise 而有的「思考感」，不知道是不是像很多人喜歡 CRT 電視的 glitch 一樣，讓人懷念所以非常迷戀（考古可以看 Memo 做的 Learning to See ，2017 耶）

以上是在多場的觀眾測試中調整過（還記得）的片段。那我們到底多逼近模糊了？觀察幾場觀眾反應後，發現人可能真的沒有想這麼多，或其實是複雜到，超越這些我們與 AI 可以想得出來的模糊結構了。所以，有機會請去高雄看看。

DRIFT IN TIME

叁式今年很有出國的運，繼四月大阪世博 TECH WORLD 館，第二個是乘著文化部的鼓勵，還有 C-Lab 的支持，我們和自然系當代室內樂團 Cicada 合作，共同製作音像作品《DRIFT IN TIME》，在 9 月初於全球指標性的林茲電子藝術節（Ars Electronica Festival）首演。這個作品從「冰的記憶」出發，思考氣候變遷與人的關係。我們分析 Cicada 演奏的頻譜、音高、聲音強度，將聲音特徵轉換成視覺流動、變形或顏色變化，讓聲音與影像同步，互為彼此的靈魂伴侶。

當然，這件屬於臺灣的作品，怎麼能不在臺灣展出呢？10/23 起將在 C-LAB 聲響藝術節，以靜態裝置的方式展演，想一窺叁式久違的原創作品，請留意官方消息，也別忘了追蹤我們的好夥伴 Cicada 呀！

DigiWave DdDd POP UP

今年第三個要出國的作品 DigiWave DdDd！

去年我們為這個展覽打造專屬主題曲、重現歷史上經典的音樂載體、聲音工具、知名聲音識別、甚至讓觀眾挑戰手機遊戲全破關後把隨身鼓機帶回家。在高雄駁二展出後，藉著 DigiWave 六年累積的成果，10/4-10/16 即將以 POP UP 的形式登上東京澀谷街頭！

作品到國外展出是一個大里程碑，但到國外移展，我跟你說，那可是叁式想了好久好久好久的夢。這次謝謝數發部、臺灣產學策進會，還有 404 Not Found（⼀般社団法⼈ 渋⾕あそびば制作委員会）給我們信心和勇氣，讓這個關於數位時代下聲音演進的展覽，得以登陸到另個國度，甚至是音樂聖地日本！

從台中出發，潛進海洋

數位體驗之於台中海洋館，不是為了增添科技感，而是讓參觀經驗變得更沉潛。我們透過數位，把看海生館變成一段化身為魚的旅程。走在館內，就像一路潛進海裡，感受不同的水域、聲音、光線和水中生物的變化。

在真實生態之間的虛擬生態

我們把數位體驗放在實體展示之間，創造讓人「走進去就能感受到」的互動；像是在眼前出現的台中高山風景，或是可踩踏的濕地，這些和實體生態的展示動線融合在一起。當觀眾看到某種生物、走進某個棲地，互動自然就發生了。

像夢一樣，與水母共游

在海洋館，你可以看到超過 20 種形態各異，但都很美麗的水母。在數位體驗上，我們把這個迷人生物的精巧、細膩、夢幻放大，讓你被他們環繞、包圍。在這區，每隔 5 分鐘還有個全場連動的時刻，記得多留一會。

穿過海平面，潛入黑潮

海洋館的重頭戲，是一座巨型的大洋缸，裡頭有各種黑潮魚類。而在水缸周邊，則是以黑潮為題的主題動畫：讓你看見洋流如何帶動海水上升流，孕育這些美好的生物。飛魚跳躍、海龜穿梭、鯨鯊母子巡遊，都在 8.5 公尺的巨型影像尺度下，栩栩如生。

總之，我們希望數位體驗在海生館，能讓你走進去感受海洋。從台中水域的高山溪流，到下游的潮間帶，再到水母、鯊魚、黑潮海域，每個角落都有能觸碰、能改變、能感受的互動。那些無法一一言說的細節——諸如腳下的光點、每個展區的音樂、魚群游過的瞬間，都有我們埋藏的心思，來看展就知道 ✨

2016 年，AlphaGo 以 4:1 戰勝南韓棋王李世乭，其中的一勝也是人類在圍棋領域對機器的最後一次勝利。而後 AlphaGo Zero 又戰勝了 AlphaGo，為什麼取名為 Zero 呢？因為 AlphaGo 是由人類棋譜訓練出來的，而 Zero 這個版本是僅告訴他圍棋的基本規則，讓他與自己對練，是從「零人類經驗」開始。就如當時世界排名第一的柯潔所說：「對於AlphaGo 的自我進步來說，人類太多餘了。 」李世乭也在宣布退休時承認，決定退休很大的原因是因為 AI。

幾年過後，ChatGPT 爆紅、文生圖的 Stable Diffusion、Midjourney，如同 AI 改變了圍棋領域，如今也滲入了許多領域，也離「創作」這個範疇越來越近。過去我們從未見過擁有自己判斷能力的工具，在這個工具瘋狂成長的過程中一直有一個很深層的集體焦慮 ——「是不是某一天我們再也無法做出比 AI 還好的作品」。

先承認此篇標題殺人，與其說是對策，這篇更像是整理一些跟自己的對話，我們都無法確切知道那天何時來臨、會是什麼模樣。而如果這是一種必然的過程，那我該用什麽姿態走向那一天？

動機

動機，是人類最常用來說嘴與 AI 最顯著的關鍵差異，但只要你動機所產生的成果本身，可以與你無關的獨立變現，那當某一天技術足夠成熟時就會有人因為商業目的，將動機轉換為機器規則，讓你無法與之競爭。而在這之前我們能做的是好好的養護它，然後往內一些往深一點，就有機會走得久一些。

關於往內一點，熊仔之前接受採訪時分享了自己的心路歷程（原文見此），他開場說了一個故事「若要摧毀一個5歲小孩的夢想，其實只需要2個步驟。假如這個孩子很喜歡畫畫，步驟一，你先花錢買下他的畫，引導他將快樂建立在外在的回饋上；步驟二，當他下次拿出更好的作品時，你只要降低向他買畫的價格，如此一來，他便會自我懷疑，甚至開始厭惡原本發自內心喜歡的事。」AI 的加入，讓這個世界更不可測，噪音越快越大，對價關係越來越複雜。創作者需要保護好那個在身體裡面的小孩，給他一點時間，傾聽他最真實的感受，那是最堅實的聲音。

關於往深一點，當你有越深刻越困難的目標，你的成果就越容易與你有關，因為那需要經過重重的價值選擇，複雜的思辨與投入，那些是脈絡、是故事，是人類彼此可以共情的地方，機器沒有（哼！）。而我通常相信能量越大的作品，那不僅僅只是才華或是運氣，也需要很多我們看不見的曲折、累積與堅持，動機可以協助你走過這些，而且這次你可以帶上 AI，可能會是更遠的地方。

品味

目前的 AI 餵養的是圖文影音，重組成一個用機率反應的模型，這是一個被簡化與降維的世界觀。而我們的多種感官受器，連結到了意識，對萬物有所感知，這個路徑與機器截然不同。

也因此，創作者有一個強大的武器 —— 品味。這個武器也會越來越重要，因為技術的簡化，更容易做出品質更好的成品，「為什麼這麽做」比「怎麼做」變的越來越重要，品味就是讓我們得以判斷為什麼這麽做的基礎，那品味是什麼？

作家朱宥勳在自己的 YouTube 頻道談過品味，他說「品味其實是你對某件事情的刻度可以到多精細的程度，當你的刻度越精細，你能夠區分出這個作品跟那個作品，這個細節跟這個細節之間微小的差異的時候，你就是一個品味很好的人」。

回頭看吉卜力之亂，有任何一張別人生產出而令你印象深刻的畫面嗎？但眾人卻因為照片變成吉卜力的風格而欣喜，甚至細看會發現，其實它沒有那麼的吉卜力。我們真心迷戀的，並非一種可被複製的「風格」，而是宮崎駿本人獨一無二的「品味」，喜愛的是他建構一個個動畫的各種選擇與喜好，那些結果成為了一種可識別的符號。可以看看這個影片就會更好理解品味是什麼。而好品味來自認真的生活，除了刻意的反芻各種感受，也需要有意識的對待各種的差不多與習以為常。好奇心是那把劃下刻度的刀（這句好像有點酷），套句那位科技界品味代表 Steve Jobs 的話：「求知若渴、虛心若愚」（“Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish”）。

而在 AI 時代有一個可能會被忽視的議題，是不是很多品味其實是透過「實際執行」而來？宮崎駿的品味除了對生活的觀察與醒悟，是不是很多其實是來自他仍然日復一日一筆一筆的在構思畫面？根據我的自身經驗，我相信這個答案是肯定的，如果他只下指令而再也不實際參與執行，一定會在某些地方開始鈍化。人類透過實際執行帶來的身體經驗，也是沒有身體的 AI 難以理解的。縱使很多工作可以開始慢慢交出去，但識別哪些是維持敏銳需要刻意進行的行為，是需要持續思考的題目。

意外

AI 找尋的是最優化的路徑，而人類因為缺陷會偏移、分心甚至迷路。但不理所當然的路徑才會看到不一樣的風景，這種不是追求效率與安全的狀態，反而是創造力的重要成分。讓生命保持一定比例的意外，然後好好抓取意外產生的奇異時刻。

缺陷很多時候在創作者的手裡成為了更好的存在，像是日本的工藝「金繼」，用金漆修補破碎的器皿，那些裂痕成為美好的歷史印記。

目前 AI 生成的都是一種勻值的狀態，這種東西越多，不完美不標準反而令人注目。再開放一點點，接納第一時間不直覺的事情，連結看似沒有關聯的節點，把自己放置在之前沒有的情境，理解看似不相關的領域，這些彈性有時是絕妙創作出現的突破口。清晰的道路是創作者越來越不該追求的路線，那是 AI 最會走的路。如何拿捏意外的比例與掌握意外的狀況，會成為接下來很重要的能力。

繞來繞去講了那麼多，其實核心上是在對自己說，在 AI 時代，不要被焦慮吞噬或盲目求新，接下來要更專心的好好當一個「人」（這句聽起來超像幹話！）但很開心這是我目前暫時的結論。要保持動機，打開感官與好奇，接納自己與環境的不穩定，帶上更赤子的精神與更開放的心情，真誠的迎接每一天。

以上都是比較是面向自己的對話，而有一些面向是創作者與外部世界的關係（資源、社群、市場等等），字已夠多不再贅述。但同時也需要放點心思觀察 AI 走到什麼地步了，怎麼與之協作、這個媒材本身帶來了什麼新的可能，環境的改變怎麼影響各種觀念倫理或對價關係（好累）。我們更難好好待在已經蓋好的堡壘，而更需要像個背包客一樣，輕裝地不斷移動。

總之，AI 的發展，將逐步的褪去各種技術壁壘，把創作者逼去更深刻的面對一個亙古且不會有正確答案的靈魂拷問：「我是誰？」

「這家公司好不社會化，真讚ㄚ」

可能是因為創辦人們在學生時代就認識，又是一群直到不行的直男，公司有種不正經的大學系辦氣息——我剛到公司不久時，目睹一位同事閉著眼睛，筆直的躺在會議室的桌上開會，當下想說「？？？？」接著發現他雖橫亙在會議室中央，但有在聽，而且能適當地給出回應。據說公司早期曾發生 A 同事在會議進行時，被 B 同事脫褲子，A 只好整場會議裸下身的事故，相比起來躺著開會真的是 nothing。

在叁式上班，如果你忽然很想吹陶笛、想找人一起蹲在地上玩牌七、想去頂樓玩寶可夢、想去公園溜滑梯，通通都沒毛病（以上都發生過）。

「好愛賣弄學術名詞，好了好了」

這裡動不動就會出現「xx 理論」「OO 效應」，或是挪用某個領域的專有名詞，放到另一個語境或領域裡。舉例而言，在叁式很常出現一個詞叫「靜摩擦力」，這本來是物理學的名詞，指的是物體還沒滑動時，阻止它開始移動的摩擦力。在叁式，這個字指的是啟動做某些事的阻力。譬如你可能會聽到「要ＯＯ發動討論的靜摩擦力太大，你幫他一下辣」。

剛開始覺得矮額，真是一個強烈散發菁英主義氣息的地方，但久了也就不以為意了。

「發明一些內部用語，怎這麼中二」

有些名詞是叁式內部專屬的，你可以說他是企業語言、內梗、黑話，總之就是叁式人才懂的詞彙。譬如說，叁式有個制度叫「Golion」，典故出自 80 年代日本動畫《百獸王》，五頭機器獅合體的人形就叫 Golion。在叁式，Golion 是跨部門的結合體，處理制度優化、價值共識等等（我們覺得公司層級的大事）。或者，視覺部有個常態計畫叫 Muse，取自古希臘的靈感女神。視覺部會以 Muse 之名開例會、舉行自發性專案等等。還有 try it out，意指集體發想點子的會議，誰都可以參加。

說到底，其實這間公司的名字也是有國學典故的——太乙、奇門、六壬三種中國古代用來算命、占卜的系統，合在一起就叫「叁式」。英文名 ULTRACOMBOS 則是取自格鬥遊戲裡發動的華麗連擊。怎麼樣，又帥又可愛吧。

以上只是從叁式的字彙宇宙例舉幾個，如果你對於加入這個奇異宇宙有興趣的話，最近的機會是近期（應該會）公開徵募的實習計畫，再發囉叁式社群吧。

不知道你上次收到我們的電子報有什麼感想呢？

「一直以來很神秘的叁式，竟然開始做這麼不帥的事情嗎？」要是我收到，我應該會這樣想，一開始我們想做這件事的時候也有點擔心會不會太復古，你怎麼看？

我們介紹了一件關於科技電子廠的委託創作，以及實驗室一隅和叁典詞條。信件發佈後，也在 IG 限時動態開了問答，想知道大家有聽過什麼關於叁式的江湖傳說。

原則上，我們接下來的電子報將會依循這個模式，透過作品表態，大聲疾呼我們的想望，同時讓你從一線縫隙中，偷偷窺見叁式的靈魂。每期內容會由不同夥伴主筆，風格迥異但走在同條路上，這大概也是叁式的一個重要的面向，多元、彈性、尊重個體差異。

不過原則就是拿來打破的，身為團隊裡少數非內容產製的角色，來說點作品/專案以外的事好了。

那些我真的從客戶口中聽到的三個傳說

1. 「聽說叁式是臺灣 teamLab？」

做為 PM 我個人是非常愛這個標籤，不管是面對客戶、朋友還是家人，這樣介紹能省略以下五百字，畢竟「從數位出發跟不同領域共創的藝術與設計」這…真的需要一點慧根才能參透。不過我也深知，叁式想做的、正在做的遠遠不止是如此。希望哪天，數位體驗、科技藝術、甚至是叁式，能夠成為眾所皆知、一講出來就知道是什麼的存在。（也希望能做到和 teamLab 同樣規模的案子）

2. 「叁式？你們是策展公司？」

承上題，本質上我們是從數位出發的體驗設計團隊，不過因為常被邀請做展覽規劃，所以比較容易在這象限被看見。我認識叁式也是透過展覽：2020 DigiWave 和 2020 台灣設計展 @新竹，那時候還是學生的我看完展覽、回家看到報導說這是叁式第一次策展超級震驚！shout-out to 當時的大家。如今，我們又完成了好幾個展覽。你呢？你是怎麼認識叁式的？

3. 「叁式好像很神秘？」

除了我們的作品都很具現場性以外，過去我們傾全力在製作理想的作品，比較少關注如何曝光。接下來我們依然會用力的成為「我們」，並在拷問自己的同時，開發更多合作的可能。如果你是品牌公關、藝術經紀、行銷專業，或是有任何異業合作需求，請讓我們認識你！當然，單純想認識我們也歡迎來信。

2025 大阪世界博覽會（EXPO 2025 OSAKA）以「生命的光輝」為題，聚焦人類對未來的想像。在主題區「TECH WORLD」，叁式打造的沈浸式劇場作品《山、雲與我們》展出，讓島嶼的風景首度以光影之姿，引領世界踏上一段視覺與聲音共編的山行。

叁式一直以來透過數位藝術，探討文化、自然與當代科技的交會。而這一次，我們選擇相反的方向——用數位的筆觸，將這座島帶給全世界。在 2025 大阪世博，我們讓島嶼的山岳，越過地圖與語言，靜靜投影在全世界觀者的心中。既是遠行，也是返鄉。

專案夥伴的心得

雖然最後因為諸多原因並不能盡善盡美，但最重要的是，我們試著用自己的方式靠近自然，將山林的呼吸、霧氣與光影轉化成一場沈浸式劇場。藉由一種被自然包圍、而不是置身事外的方式，去想像——如果把人放回自然萬物之一的角度，會是什麼樣子？我們又該如何思考與自然的關係。

先鋒小隊踩點分享

這次到世博讓人印象最深的，是下一個太陽之塔——大屋根。

用杉木和柏木打造出可以安靜行走的木構空間，高約四層樓，繞它一圈要走上一個多小時。這棟建築結合了日本傳統「貫」的結構，無論你何時到訪，都值得去散散步，視線裡是海、是夢洲，日落、微風、木頭香與你並行。

3D 動畫設計：白色的熊

用數位為品牌寫一部永續之詩

全宇宙的朋友們大家好。我們今天想和各位聊聊「品牌、數位、藝術」三者之間的關係。

與其長篇大論，不如以作品案例佐證：若有一家標榜永續發展的科技電子品牌，其商業總部大樓要如何打造門面？

我們可以植生為牆，用綠蔭展示其關懷。也可用看板亮出數據，計量其成績之優秀。也可以打造巨大的裝置藝術，昭告品牌價值以抽象。

或者，也可以透過數位藝術作品，一石三鳥、化繁為簡，保衛宇宙。

對某些創作者而言，藝術與商業是背道而馳的，商業是充斥著複雜、市儈、算計的世界。但是對真正洞悉商業的創作者，會明白商業的本質就只是「價值的交換」，而若要定義何謂價值，就要了解「人的價值觀」；因此相比於純粹的創作，有時要理解商業，反而更需要洞悉什麼是「人」。

對叁式而言，透過數位體驗敘事，就是一種對人說故事的手法，而說故事的載體可以千變萬化。為品牌門面敘事的工程乍看浩大，但說白了，不過就是故事的本體，從人變成了「品牌」而已。

我們將故事拆開來看。一則故事需要「地點」、「時間」、「角色」與「情節」。

地點上，我們打造了一個虛擬的自然景觀，為作品的主場景。地雖有形，但虛擬無疆界，這片風景去除特定大陸或國度，無具體經緯位置可考，但會讓人感覺到某種「異地感」、大約可以對應到某片遙遠大地的自然景觀。如同很多人沒有去過挪威，但知道那裡的湖面總是澄清，空氣充滿寧靜。

時間上，既言永續，我們便需要這家品牌季度性、年度性的回顧。於是我們收集了這家公司一年四季各項指標的回顧數據。此地無域，但有時；透過數據的洞察，它像一面鏡子，得以讓我們審視與叩問這家公司，是否真的有隨時間推移、逐步達到環境友善的目標。

角色上，我們化數字為參數，這些參數會變成一組組關鍵字，並且餵進 AI 訓練，擾動並改變這片自然地景的風貌，永遠即時且不斷更新。在平時的情況下，這道自然風景處於生生不息、草木欣榮的狀態。但在某些時節或數字變化的情況下，如鏡照人，我們也會看見風景冷風蕭瑟、山寒水瘦，雪白明月照在大地。

最後是情節。我們這一切將整併在一張巨大的螢幕上，以 LED 做為畫布，繪製一幅宏觀的第二自然。隨著時序的推移、數據的介入，景象也將不停的生滅。在大樓的第二入口，我們也安置了一台可操控的手機（當然是客戶的品牌），透過參與繪製與調整參數，大眾可以一起介入這個自然時詩_。

自然時詩 Timescape，委託創作

一首詩，一幅畫，一個數位藝術，一個品牌，與一個品牌精神，在此破除了各自的框架，完成了交集。但是這首永續之詩還沒完成。

下一期，我們將討論數位藝術的「神性」，並表態我們如何看待「創作者與 AI」之間的微妙複雜關係。

實驗室角落

這是一個與實驗室有關的段落。

「實驗室」是叁式的核心陣地，也是無論團隊移址何處，都必須保留的重要場地。

它提供最接近現場的測試環境，確保每件作品能在正式亮相前精確調整與優化。它時而堆滿設備，線材與工具交錯如神經；時而空蕩無物，清出大片地面讓投影畫面完整展開。有時紛亂繁雜，零件、筆記、拆解的機構遍布；有時收拾妥當、器材歸位，為下一次實驗做好準備。

這裡不只是測試的場域，更是驗證創意的基地，讓想法在現實條件下反覆推敲打磨，確保最終呈現能真正達到預期的體驗。

至於這座實驗室中藏著什麼好料，將來我們逐一分享。

叁典詞條

《體驗腳本》Experience board

叁式自創名詞，於公司內部使用。脫胎於「文字腳本」（Script）、「分鏡腳本」（Storyboard）、「動態腳本」（Motionboard）的脈絡，由於活動的現場性與複雜度，因此發展出一種更適合叁式成員使用的腳本型式，包含了「視覺」、「聲音」、「燈光」、「氣味」、「核心體驗」等維度，並以縱向方式排列的腳本格式，透過正確的閱讀技巧，能幫助團隊成員更精準的想像現場體驗，填補技術之間的鴻溝，以解脫各種受限於專業分工所導致的枷鎖。

只是心中枷鎖，該如何才能解脫，喔喔喔，喔喔喔喔喔。
